Meet Stella Goodman of Fritillerie, a creative talent whose work has been a staple on Muse mood boards for years. Stella is celebrated for her skill in blending florals and objects in ways that are both innovative and captivating, solidifying her status as a true artist.
Having had the privilege of experiencing Stella's creativity firsthand, I was fortunate to witness her style an intimate Muse ceremony last year. Amidst a carefully curated ensemble of organic shapes and untamed textures, one part of Muse embarked on their elopement journey, enveloped in Stella's distinctive touch.
As we unveil this long-anticipated series, crafted meticulously over months of planning, we invite you to immerse yourself in both the words and images that encapsulate Stella's unique vision.
Can you tell us a little bit about you and your work?
My name is Stella and I live in a small town called Kiama, nestled between the mountains and the sea on the South Coast of New South Wales. I'm a florist so my work is specialised in events and creative installations.
Where do you find inspiration?
I tend to find inspiration everywhere - from the roadside where I find epic ingredients to forage all the way through to fashion, interiors, sculpture and abstract painting. I would say though that nature in its most wild form is probably my biggest inspiration, however I want to preface that I don't believe in recreating what mother nature has already produced, I believe in putting my own spin on it (be it shape or colour combinations or ingredients).
Where do you begin when you start creating?
I usually begin with a brief (most of the time issued by the client) and then roll on from there and put my own spin on it. I love to harness the power of an unexpected or unseen moment.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I was never one of those people who knew what they wanted to be when they grew up, sometimes that really bothered me especially attending a private school where you were pressured to know and have clarity about your future. In saying that though, not knowing what I wanted to do or be allowed me to experience many 'careers' and opportunities which I really feel has lead and shaped me into who I am today. I've got a degree in fashion and subsequently worked in fashion for a few years, have worked in a family business, have worked overseas in a pub (good fun) and am now enjoying being a florist and as such running my own business.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
I have a few places that feel like home to me, if it feels like home then it's a favourite - anywhere in Tasmania, my family property in the Southern Highlands and my garden.
Your favourite Flower?
The worst question to ask a florist, ha! It's impossible to have a favourite, but I would say my favourite changes with the seasons. At the moment, it's hydrangea (late summer/early autumn hydrangea is always sublime - mother nature gifts us the most special, sun-crisped, speckled heads).
I should also note I have a special place in my heart for the Fritillaria Meleagris, the namesake of my flower business. I encourage you to google it, it's a fucking cool flower.
Your favourite season?
For flowers, eternally spring and summer.
